Overview

The Electron Drift Instrument (EDI) measures the drift velocity of a weak beam of test electrons, from which the ambient electric fields are determined.

Magnetospheric Multiscale

New EDI Instruments are currently being developed for Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS). It is a collaborative effort between:

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Lead Institution
The University of Iowa
Institut für Weltraumforschung (IWF Graz)

Cluster

EDI has been operating on Cluster since 2000. It is a collaborative effort between:

Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik (MPE) Lead Institution
The University of New Hampshire (UNH)
The University of California San Diego.
The University of Iowa
Institut für Weltraumforschung (IWF Graz)
